Corps of Discovery

          The Lewis and Clark expedition was led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, two close friends. This expedition's objective was to discover the western part of the US and to make peace with the Native nations. They went down the Ohio and the Missouri River, all the way to the Pacific Ocean with the Corps of Discovery (expedition party). They discovered about 8,000 mi. (13,000 km) in only 3 years (1804-1806). With the help of Sacajawea, a Native-American woman, who voluntarily served as an interpreter, they were able to successfully find their way to the Pacific Ocean.
